We have 60 pages that we have reviewed, revised, rewritten, redrawn, removed, and now – I think – we are ready to release them into the hands of the printer!

Erica has pushed through the pain and inconvenience of a nasty sprained ankle, a fall she took just as I was leaving for an overdue vacation. Her time of recovery and my time away coincided nicely but she is still dealing with pain. Despite all of that, she has done some beautiful work – refining each page and making every one simply beautiful, in my opinion (and I hope you agree!). Alice has been awesome and, just today, helped clarify a page that was just not right and helped me realize it was not really needed.
I’ve got a couple of people taking a final look at it for proofreading and such. I’ve checked and double-checked the print requirements and I *think* we’ve got everything covered. I have to figure out the process for uploading the front and back cover, which is done separately from the interior pages. But one by one, we are checking down the list. And there are only a couple of boxes left to check!
Here’s one of the pictures completed in the last couple of weeks. Many people in the Grinnell area remember Booker and Alma Kiner. We had a lot of discussions about Alma’s skin tone. She and Booker were both very light skinned, to the point that many who knew them didn’t realize they were African American. They were dear friends of Edith and Henry so I’m so glad to be able to include them in the book.

Until next time, which may just be a short celebratory message after submission!
